# Ignoring Advice

Advice reflects someone else's context and history. Listen carefully, but test ideas in the real world and build your own map of what works.

Advice is diverse.

There is someone out there who would advise **exactly what you're doing**.
There is also someone out there who would suggest **the exact opposite**.

Ultimately, someone advising you on how to do something is someone telling you their **lottery numbers**. Their numbers are tied to their context, industry, background, timing, and many other variables.

Their numbers may work for you (or may not). But there's ultimately no reliable way to know if their advice is **worth considering**.

So do listen to people's advice **but don't take it outright**.

Instead, develop your own knowledge, hypothesis and conclusions **yourself**.

Go and try things **out in the field**, make your own **map of reality** and come up with **your own explanations**.
