# The Price of AI

AI saves enormous amounts of time, but outsourcing thought can weaken the skills we stop practicing. That trade-off may still be worth making.

1. AI will save you a lot of time
2. Hours of brainstorming, designing, and drafting are replaced with minutes of prompting.
3. That's great because now you can invest that time doing other meaningful work.
4. But it comes with a cost: Atrophy
5. Nothing deteriorate our writing skills and memory as much as AI.
6. This is also known as **The Crutch Effect:** What you don't use, you lose.
7. But losing something to gain something better is not losing, **is investing**.
8. **GPS** weakens our sense of direction, **calculators** make us forget arithmetic, and the **agricultural revolution** made our bodies weak.
9. But GPS **help us get home**, calculators **help us split bills**, and agriculture **feeds us** every day.
10. So yes, AI has a price, but it's a fair one.
